Categories > Multi-Chamber
Includes two, three and four chambers in total. May be round, flat or unconventionally designed. They made a sound that most associate with trains, but were used for cycling, taxi calls, etc. Their quality varied from poor to very high. Dating back into the late 1800s, we find them from petite to 'jumbo' sized (at least for the average whistle). The heaviest dual shaped designs were made for a rather short period of time just over a decade circa 1885 to 1900, Makers included Ward, Barrall, Hudson, DeCourcy and others in the UK. Thin walled multichambered whistles became the norm, having been made at the same time, they continue to be made today. Examples found in Germany, UK, France, Bulgaria and America with more surfacing all the time.
