collecting whistles

this thought of sharing seems counterproductive. On the one hand,  one has to really accumulate whistles to research them. Can't share them after that cause you need them to study further.

Then if you share them you are stuck without your references !!!

So what to share and how ??

Pictures are great to share.

Not only that, but writing observations that can be posted.

U tube videos are great.

Blogs are informative too.

Also comments on current websites.

Facebook, start a website…..

All these methods are growing —— and sharing of whistle info is snowballing.

*******************Should flush out a lot more on whistles in the future huh ?? *************************************

even commenting on sites like this one….well, probably not after all—SPAM  is killing off this avenue.

Sorry to say, but most of what comes in is people selling something and parasitically commenting in some generic way and then using the site to promote a product or service.

We need a 'work around' ………

whistle collector

wouldn't it be nice to change the thought — what do you collect ???

How about what interests you ?? OR what do you research ???

Yeah, that sounds better. Not a collector, but a 'researcher'.  or is it just semantics ??

Let's contrast the two. or perhaps they aren't so far apart ??

collector — gathers items ( let's say whistles ) — researcher gathers whistles AND information about whistles

collector — examines the parts — so does the researcher

collector — categorizes — same with researcher

collector files ( and displays ) his whistles — researcher files his information

wow, thought I was on to something there. Guess they are close to the same after all. Guess I owe an apology to all those hoarders.

….of course, not if anything isn't shared.. Is this an oxymoron ??

Hmmmm…….

whistle fatigue

ever get tired of whistles ?? Hard to do, but even the most die hard ( I like to think of myself that way 🙂 occasionally tire of the grind.

What grind you ask ?? Keeping the feather in the air. You know, trying to think of something whistle related every day to BLOG about !!!!!

How to do it ?? Keep on researching and sifting and something always breaks out. For instance, missed a great little whistle today on line. Dropped the ball with everything going on and missed it completely. Wanna know how much it went for ?? A dollar !! Argh !!! OUCH !!!!

To think that no one wanted it and yet it had the coolest design.  Well, I thought so anyway and that's the point isn't it ??  Oval sides on an escargot. Yet it was made of pot metal. Not the best quality. Gotta give in sometimes..

Sorta. The point is that if you ever let burn out get to you then that stupid ball gets dropped and you end up kicking yourself afterwards — forever ….maybe.

We'll see if another pops up. So many whistles and so little time….

Metropolitan Police whistles

Right up there with the top enquiries for the website are Metropolitan Police Whistles — time after time. WHY ???

Well, I could venture a guess and here goes….

First of all they all are similar in size. Soooo it goes that they are easily displayed and line up together.

Next ??

They can be lined up in years of production too —  since 1882-3. That means there are slots to look for and fill in a row of possibly 30 whistles or more ( don't forget all the variations )

Beyond that they feeeeel terrific 🙂 What does THAT mean ?? — Must I spell it out ???? OK then  🙂 ….Nickle silver !!!!!!!! Hard to beat my favorite metal when it comes to whistles, yup, yup, yup…..

So far all we have talked about are true Metropolitan Police whistles….is there more to this  ???

Yup, yup, yup……….

rare whistles and chocolate

Not surprisingly there seems to be a corrolation between chocolate and rare antique whistles !!!

Chocolate —-

  • it increases endorphins, which gives a feeling of pleasure
  • it contains serotonin, which acts as an anti-depressant
  • it can reduce blood pressure in individuals with high blood pressure
  • it has been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad kind) by up to 10 percent

Whistles —-

same when you find or learn more about a whistle you never knew existed and especially if you can get one

same for when you are down

same when your whistle arrives in the mail

well, three out of four ain't bad…..

WHISTLES, COLLECTIBLE OR RARE OR ???

the real question that begs to be asked is what is a collectible whistle ??

If it is rare do I collect it because it is rare ?? If it is not rare might I be motivated to collect it anyway ??

What does one collect anything for ??

personal — always

resale — sometimes

How often do the two meet — now we ARE talking rare  !!!!!!

It would seem that we are driven by many complex reasons. How ever to cut right through everything we could ask if a whistle is not rare and/or  valuable what would motivate us to collect it ?? Certainly not value.

Perhaps just personal like say a whistle that we had when we were in the scouts – just like the one we found for sale or such.

Best case scenario ??  ………..To learn ………

rare whistle pictures

hope we aren't beating this subject of whistle pictures into the ground, but hey — it may be all you ever have of a particular whistle you have seen in a picture. We must have thousands of pictures from the internet now. Yet, we can't show them because of copyrights.

However, they do create a library for reference to. They can be organized into files. Indeed we have modeled the site after our own files, although much less cataegories 🙂

What to look for is size. NO, not the whistle size this time, but the picture size !! Yah, sometimes you can go to your 'file' and the picture saved is soooooo small that you can't see the whistle — now that leaves a little to be desired – in fact everything to be desired YECH !!!! A THUMBNAIL picture !!!

Lot's more to think about than you thought about … huh ???

antique whistle pictures

why all the hub bub about whistle pictures ??

Travel !!!! Yah, most of us can't travel enough ever to find all the great whistles that are out there ( and there are a gazillion )

So, dependancy on pictures to find what one is looking for is a must.

That being said, here is a real caveat for you to make a mental note about. Better yet paste it on the front of your computer…..

Ready ???????

WHISTLE SIZE

WHAT DOES that MEAN YOU ASK ??  ………………………………………. precisely —– it means that little whistles can be made to look BIG inn pictures posted on your screen.

So when buying over the net —- MAKE SURE you ask this simple question >>>>>> How long is the whistle ???

You will love me for that one some day…..

whistle pictures

say now, what do you look for in whistle pictures ??

Oh, that's EASY !!!

LOTS OF THEM !!! The more angles the better.

Seems like a no brainer doesn't it ?? Yet on line auctions go from fantastic ……. to hopeless. Or far less than what I would have hoped for !!!!

If someone wants to sell you a whistle and can't take the time or get the right camera —– then quiver with fear !!!

Dark, fuzzy, far away, bad angles — seen them all. These are indicators that is a huge caveat emtor.

Now, on the other hand that should work for us too. Poor pictures taken or given — ech !!!!     Gotta depend on those pics if anything is to happen, right ???

And sizing them too. Just can't send little tiny pix huh ?? Well I guess you can but,  help !!!  I can't see the whistle !!! Argh !!!    …..Pixel counts…..

Can't talk about it anymore…….too painful…..

whistle research

back to avoiding buyers remorse… well kinda finishing it up…

remember we left off talking about doing your homework ?? How does one do that when there is so little information on whistles ??

Study.

Sorry.

It's true.

What did you think ?? That it would be easy and fall together ?? The good news is that you have us to rely on !!! So here is step one.

BUY the books !!! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure – for sure. This means that you want to know what to buy and what to NOT buy !!!!!

Gotta really learn what you are looking at. AND it really helps to check with trusted friends that know their stuff too.

That would be those books again ( there are actually only two you need ) Then you can study our website for more info and you can write for more,

Can we make another suggestion ??? >>>>>>> USE PICTURES to communicate. They say everything.

It is surprising how much can be learned by repeatedly looking at those pictures. Perhaps study your mistakes too 🙁            Those poor whistles gotta serve some purpose )

There is definitely a learning curve—but if you read and stare enough you can shorten that curve tremendously. Honest…

So what do you look for in those pictures ??? hmmmm…tomorrow….
