As whistles come in from around the world and more material becomes avaialble for articles the load becomes heavier and the pace slower !!

As of yet the goal is still to post a SPOTLIGHT highlighting a subject on whistles every month and  special edition focusing on one whistle posted on the 15th of every month. Albeit 10 days late as of today !!!

Belatedly will still do it 🙂

One would think that there would be no more to write about !!! In fact there is plenty and we are far ahead in articles and material, but it is the pictures ( cutting and cropping, and yes always some photoshopping of lint in the background !!! —  and posting that takes so much time and the arranging of the articles with pictures.

The miracle worker is Whitney who struggles with my stuff and then with the computor programs that are available — she does it all !!!

Well, I think we have found a rhythm…

SPOTLIGHTS every first of the month…

… and a SPOTLIGHT special edition on the 15th — half way through the month.

It was fun to throw in a few regular SPOTLIGHTS as bonuses, but in the long run we need to keep a slower pace and be consistent I would think.Lot's of research takes time !!!

So what is the difference in the two?? Glad you asked !!! 

SPOTLIGHTS should always delve into a whistle related subject at some depth. For example the latest on Richard Porteous was ground breaking and comprehensive. However a smaller subject like skeleton whistles was done and had a smaller scope but was a comprehensive range.All SPOTLIGHTS are set up to be added to.

SPOTLIGHT special editions  are even more focused. They deal specifically with singly known whistles. This being said, we are going to expand this to deal with whistles that were production whistles, but are rare enough that they deserve a magnified and therefor closer look at.

What is coming up this weekend ?? ANOTHER unveiling of something by Richard Porteous !!

well, quickly getting the hang of this research and thought to pass on a big help with it.

take pictures all at once !!! Yep, helps a ton !!! Do all your pictures all at once and slip them into folders labeled and ready to go.

Then on another day write up your notes for that file 🙂

Gives you better clarity when taking all your pictures and you can concentrate more on your writing when back into those folders later.

Who does all this you ask ????

well, we are posted as promised !!!

Took a lot to put together this SPOTLIGHT. We really wanted an all around discussion on these enigmatic escargot whistles. So well made and so little known about manufacturer.

So for now, well classified at least !!! Somthing will break at some point and we will all, be ready 🙂

In the mean time  evrything is out there now. Been collecting these for many years. Famous ones were made for Winchester. However they deserve to get attention due to themselves don't ya think ??

Makes for a great story how they started and quiclky improved in quality and design and then disappeared !!!

Aaaaaand went ahead and introduced another original whistle, this time by Lilly !!! Fun huh ?? Hope to think so too.

end of the month !!! Know what that means ?? YUP, time for a new SPOTLIGHT — what will it be ??? AND beyond that perhaps another SPECIAL EDITION ???

You know, the one that focuses on single known whistles ?? Really, my favorite to do, as it looks closely at just one whistle. Easier to work up and more exciting to see a whistle that so little known about, —  even if it is our own 🙂

If we can keep the pace, perhaps even another bonus SPOTLIGHT……….  sometime during the month.

Seems like there is so much to study and write about and so little time–probably always the case. 

One more day….

HELP !!!!

Yeah, we could use some help….. With what ?? Patents and registered designs from France and Germany.

See,  the reason is that it is hard to search these out here from the states, try as we may, keep hitting roadblocks. Talked recently to a collector in the states who has 1500 patents ( of another thing other  than whistles — I know what you are thinking….what else is there ?? )

He said that much of his help came from collectors in Europe. BOY that would open up doors wouldn't it ?? AND then they could be shaaaaaaared !!!

Right now we are in the process of organizing all the USA and UK ones we can get,  into some sort of accessable filing system.

However it would be soooo much better to include those two countries !!!!!!

Been getting more and more enquiries on whistles. Just to make a note, we have been contacted about rare whistles and not so rare ones. Even a collection of electronic testers !! Wooden whistles, slide whistles police, military, mining, silver….

Interesingly enough we are seeing whistles not seen before also. THAT is what we hoped for !!! The next step is to bring them to you, our readers. We all know they are just sitting around in those cabinets and drawers huh ??

We are all set up now for you to write in and include some pictures. BUT…please remember that the pictures need to be clear and close up !!! AND from different angles if possible. That way we don't have to write back and ask for moooooooore !!!!

You can do it !!! Recently we spent some time blogging somne suggestions for taking pictures — even with your phones 🙂  —- Hope this helps us all.

Makes sense, a LOT like coins and THEY are very expensive, rare and collectable 🙂 Whistles though have dodged that still.

Better than coins is….

….that feeeel of a heavy, smooth, well made whistle that beats coins to pieces you know.

And coins don't make any sound at all either.

Besides that you can't hang up coins like whistles…

No comparison really…well, I guess you can't spend a whistle—gotta give 'em that….
