whistle pictures

say now, what do you look for in whistle pictures ??

Oh, that's EASY !!!

LOTS OF THEM !!! The more angles the better.

Seems like a no brainer doesn't it ?? Yet on line auctions go from fantastic ……. to hopeless. Or far less than what I would have hoped for !!!!

If someone wants to sell you a whistle and can't take the time or get the right camera —– then quiver with fear !!!

Dark, fuzzy, far away, bad angles — seen them all. These are indicators that is a huge caveat emtor.

Now, on the other hand that should work for us too. Poor pictures taken or given — ech !!!!     Gotta depend on those pics if anything is to happen, right ???

And sizing them too. Just can't send little tiny pix huh ?? Well I guess you can but,  help !!!  I can't see the whistle !!! Argh !!!    …..Pixel counts…..

Can't talk about it anymore…….too painful…..

whistle research

back to avoiding buyers remorse… well kinda finishing it up…

remember we left off talking about doing your homework ?? How does one do that when there is so little information on whistles ??

Study.

Sorry.

It's true.

What did you think ?? That it would be easy and fall together ?? The good news is that you have us to rely on !!! So here is step one.

BUY the books !!! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure – for sure. This means that you want to know what to buy and what to NOT buy !!!!!

Gotta really learn what you are looking at. AND it really helps to check with trusted friends that know their stuff too.

That would be those books again ( there are actually only two you need ) Then you can study our website for more info and you can write for more,

Can we make another suggestion ??? >>>>>>> USE PICTURES to communicate. They say everything.

It is surprising how much can be learned by repeatedly looking at those pictures. Perhaps study your mistakes too πŸ™            Those poor whistles gotta serve some purpose )

There is definitely a learning curve—but if you read and stare enough you can shorten that curve tremendously. Honest…

So what do you look for in those pictures ??? hmmmm…tomorrow….

whistle displays

still on the subject of what to do with that growing whistle collection and now you want to move on…

so what about just getting rid of all those dogs ( whistles that mean very little to you ) You know, the junk whistles ?? Why not just dump them, ?? Why not ???

I know, it is a dollar loss — so what !!! Why hold on to WHAT YOU DON'T WANT !!!!! That would be even more weird huh ???

Then your collection becomes much better quality πŸ™‚

Now you can display them in your house and they of course make a terrific display. Really put your all into it and then —- let go.

OUCH, that is harsh….

If so, then just keep collecting and write it off to pure entertainnent. Have fun πŸ™‚ Lot's ofoptions….

Sorry, but there are too few dyed in the wool collectors, affcionados, students or whatever you want to call it that are 'lifers'

Me ?? It is cathartic…..

selling rare, antique whistles

oooooh, time to sell all those whistles now ?? Tired of them ??? Ready to move on ???

Uh, Oh….. what to do ??

eBay ?? Etsy ??? Hmmm… not a ready market is there ??

So that is why thinking ahead is so vital.

That's not FAIR you say ( after all you spent so much time and money aquiring them all )

Ever watch Princess Bride ?? Great line from that movie…"get used to disappointment"

All better now ?? Probably not. But you may have to cut bait and move on, as they say in the fishing world.

Whistles are like watching a movie, eating out, going for a bike ride…………………. Just entertainment.

However you do have one very nice option to selling them off…

tomorrow….

collecting antique whistles

something sobering to think about is….Is collecting whistles a one way door ??

In other words, since whistles are so inexpensive ( in general ) and a large collection is rather easy to build, what do you do with them next ???

Well, what do you mean by next ?? Dump them ?? — That would mean it is just a fling      πŸ™

On the other hand you may think it is an investment. …Could be, but not likely. They just don't appreciate THAT MUCH !!!

They are going up though – at least rare ones and police issues.

However one should really consider what one is going to do with all those whistles……hmmmm……suggestions ???

tomorrow….

pricing antique whistles

…still thinking about people using our whistle website to sell your whistles. Just to be clear — WE ARE NOT A PRICING WEBSITE !!!!!!!!!!!

Yet….

we have crafted several articles to help you sell

we have also posted a way to contact us to identify your whistle and we usually do it the same day πŸ™‚

We constantly post articles for free so you can learn and study whistles you have or find

No, we won't tell you what your whistle is worth — BUT we certainly give you all the tools !!!!!!!!

Now I can rest guilt free….kinda…..

whistle prices

probably will step on some toes, but just gotta laugh when we get enquiries about "how much is my whistle worth ? "

Really ??

THAT'S what we have worked yeeeeeears for !!! So we can help sell your whistle !!!! Well, not yours, but SOMEONE'S anyway πŸ™‚

Yah, happens alot !!!!

But you know what is nice ?? When we get cut in on the profits for helping out. Just the other day we helped someone sell their collection for 1500 dollars and then they sent us 500 dollars for helping them price them and describing what each whistle was and recomending how to advertise them.

Believe that ?? Yeah, we also have some swamp land to sell you πŸ™‚

NOT….

On the other hand we can and do offer the best price that we can if we are interested. Just can't afford them all. What do you do after all ??

I guess we will continue to research and publish all the free information we can so you CAN sell your whistles. Can't beat that price……

king whistle

The problem with King whistles is that you hardly ever see them for sale. Kinda makes you wonder what production levels were back then ? Well even the fact that they were made for decades, now that we are thinking of it.

Since Joe  started making them right out of the gate in 1882-3 and they were made at least till the 1930s, well where did they all go ??

Perhaps they are sooooo coooool that nobody lets go of them πŸ™‚

Sometimes they do….I know it took a lot of hunting to find enough to present in an article. 6 or 7 years to be sort of exact….

and still looking….especially for that 84 bucks one !!!!

Amd they are bulky. Can't imagine carrying one around in the pocket. Maybe only on a chain like a watch ???

It was a fun SPOTLIGHT  though eh ?? Hope you enjoyed it πŸ™‚

beaufort whistle

The beaufort whistle gets little accolades.

Why is that ?? Just too conical ?? Or plain Jane ?? Can be I suppose.

Or maybe we just haven't seen enough of them.

It has been said that when the Metropolitan was being promoted that beauforts were accepted as trade ins. Not all fell for it, like the Liverpool forces for example. But apparently many did. So then they are a bit scarce.

Well, except Liverpool understandably so.

However, not every beaufort is generic now are they ??

Just add a decorative knop and a whole new image develops — around who used those knops??

Add to that a creative cast mouthpiece or even one that unscrewed for cleaning and WOW !!! Now you have a vintage amazing whistle !!!

Perhaps made of pure nickle silver too ??? And those LARGE beauforts really are outstanding don't you think ?? Haven't seen many ????.

Could this have anything to do with the belated SPOTLIGHT ?? Hmmmm…..

rare, antique whistles

Time to take a break from all the deep motivations and weaknesses that can lead to buyer's remorse !!!

Yup, only a couple days till another new and fresh SPOTLIGHT post. Isn't it great to see every month an article for free on our favorite subject ?? ( i.e. antique, rare, vintage and collectible whistles ) Our target is whistles prior to 1900, but sometimes we just have to go post 1900 πŸ™‚

So, what will the next SPOTLIGHT be on ?? A hint is ….  the largest category of whistles….. Now don't jump to any conclusions !!! I said it is a 'hint'

What is fun is this — where else can you go for regular reliable information on vintage whistles ?? And the more you spread the word about the site the more motivating it is for us. After all what do we get out of it all other than the satisfaction that our efforts are doing some good somewhere ?? When we started collecting it was just the three books. Then a few friends were met and connected with and we learned as much with them as we did from the books !!! So in return we try to post everything we learn. And writing the articles actually forces out new information for everyone.

For example, right now we are researching and writing and article that before long 'morphed' into FOUR articles !!! So for now, article one is being finished. That will take at least another month as it turns out. And the other three ?? well, they too will take time throughout the year.

Of course there are other articles. We could post them sooner, but, well, truthfully it becomes a burden and no fun. This way we can keep going or even take breaks for a few weeks…wow, a break….hmmmm…..
