whistle pictures

Now on the other hand taking pictures is just as important as looking at other peoples pix in the whistle world !!!

Digital cameras are not that expensive and even cell phones work good enough now. All you gotta do is patch them or even email them to your computer and your oiff and running !!!

Sounds tooooooo easy doesn't it ??

It is !!!!

Try it for fun with your cell phone. Take random whistle pictures and send them to your email on the computer and open them up and file them in a holding file. —- It is just good practice for anything !!!!

NEXT, start taking them in different light. Say for instance, in low light. Just practice that way and put them in your low light file.

NEXT take them in high-light and do the same.

Lastly take them with mixed lots of whistles — because dark and shiney don't mix well and the practice sessions bring that out.

voila….you are an accomplished cell phone picture taker !!!

rare whistle damaged whistle on eBay

there are two sides to buying a rare whistle that is damaged….

( perhaps more sides yet πŸ™‚

((Of course most sellers try to be accurate as possible —– and you read that on their descritption page of the auction.))

First we buyers have to see and note the damage, cause more than likely the seller has a back door.—-  What is that you ask ??

"I'm no expert on whistles so ask ahead" …. Yeah been there, bought that T-Shirt !!! Let's think about that for a second………….ready ???

Oh, REALLY ??????? Could one sell an antique table with a gouge down the middle and not point it out ?? Or a rare coin and not show the defects ?? How about a great Corvette car from the 60s,  but don't mention a headlight is missing !!!!

Oh I know, we posted pictures and said ask for any questions before you buy !!! ( a form of insurance I suppose )

My favorite is — "great condition for its age" ————–What ever happened to MINT condition  ???

Whatever….

The whole reason for this tirade is that I saw a rare 'castle' top beaufort go on eBay today for big bucks. I have only seen two others in my few days. However the top knop is missing and it is damaged. Do you think that the seller noted that ?? Even after I wrote and told them so ????

Hmmmmm……..

whistle pictures

going along with clear pictures is another thought to remember– MORE !!!

What's wrong with asking for more pictures ?? Better angles and mooooooore of them.

In fact 360 degrees of them is best — it only takes ONE dent or scratch to ruin a whistle !!!!!!!!!!

Closeups really help, especially if you can see inside at all too πŸ™‚

However some hold back from asking —- whyyyyyy ??

1) too much time spent with emails to bother with ??
2) might think that more pictures would be posted or sent out to others and a 'good one' get away or go into the  stratospheric price heaven ??
3) don't want to bother the seller
4) lazy
5) can't open attachments
6) Didn't know one could πŸ™‚

If you buy from afar — pix are your best friends….

whistle pictures

buying whistles over the net is great, but can really bite you if not careful. How is that you ask ??

PIX !! Pix !! Pix !!!

Can't really hold and try the whistle out — yah ?? Can't look inside of it either for the most part.

However, you can get those terrific digital pictures.:-)

Ironically we see a lot of whistles for sale with blurry pictures. Really goes against the nature of the whole thing doesn't it ?? We want a picture —  to see what we are buying,  but may only get a picture that is 75% clear.

That would amount to seeing 75% of the whistle wouldn't it ?? And yet it happens all the time but with a note that the seller couldn't take a good picture 'because of the camera' —– .FUNNY….

AND not your problem, UNNNNNLESS you buy it !!!

If you look no further and buy it anyway….. now it is gambling !!! And you really can't complain honestly can you, if the whistle has defects that are fuzzy in the picture πŸ™

The answer ??

1) don't buy it !!!
2) ASK for clear pictures
3) roll the dice ( but be ready to eat it !! )

just some thoughts to mull over….

whistles For sale

yeah, well of course things are never as easy as they seem !!!

Got this widget problem or maybe an email problem or maybe….well you get the picture.

Can't get the shopping cart to connect !! So if ya want to know more about a whistle that's for sale, you will have to email direct with the numbers !!!

Soooorrrrreeeee !!!!!!!!!

Back to the boards…..

whistles for sale

whew !!!

Wow , did that take a LOT of time !!! Aaaaaanyway, the for sale pages are up and running now. Probably have a ton of errors, but will deal with those this weekend πŸ™‚

Well, my errors not my incredibly innovative web master !!!!!!

Write if you like–in fact write if you don't like !!!

C YA ….

eBay whistle

got an interesting email on a slider whistle the other day. Enquiring on what we knew about it.

Yeah, pretty cool looking and all. Mahogany and well built, perhaps pre 1900. Has what looked to be musical notes on the inside shaft.

So anyway we were asked what we could tell about it and since it is a slider and wooden we shared what we could. Always nice to hear from someone who values what they have.

Possibly gotten from a long time relative or someone else in the family.

May even have been cherished and handed down several generations.

Just love it when whistles are valued so much !!

You can see it for sale for 20gbp on eBay…..

whistle windows

Whistle collectors are different don't you think ?? We don't spend as much time looking through windows as we do looking at them !!!!

It's all about the shape, level and effect………

For example how high up is the window on your whistle ??

How much does the angle affect the sound ??  — The diaphragm or wedge in relationship to it.

How large is the opening ??

What shape is it ??

Does the  manufacturer vary it or modify it on the same whistle model or is there progression perhaps ?? Helping to date it ??

Is it round, oval, straight sided or curved ??

Are there two windows and do they each have different characteristics that can be seen the same on each whistle from that maker ?? Helping to identify the manufacturing process that particular maker used ??

Gives new meaning to window shopping…..

rare whistles

today one can see a great example of a rare whistle that is getting fairly common !!! The TANK whistle on eBay — up to 200gbp so far.

More Whistles states that it is much sought after and that is very true !!! It is presumed rare by that wouldn't you think ?? BUT, we have seen a dozen go for sale in the last five years.

Of course that doesn't mean it is cheap, just getting cheaper is all πŸ™‚ — Relatively speaking anyway. Originally selling for over 1000 dollars it is dropping soon below 500 dollars. Can't wait …. well yes I can !!!!

As for looks, you will have to judge for yourself !!!! An interesting whistle for sure, but aesthetically pleasing ??? Hmmmmm…..

whistles and aftermath

still recovering from the weekend  ( last ) at the Portland Expo ) !!! Not only setting up takes its toll but breaking down and then re mounting everything at home. Whew !!!

Such a contrast of buyers in whistledom. One customer will walk up and pay whatever the tag says — no questions asked. ( We took a rare Gillies whistle by mistake when loading and so we put a little stronger price to discourage its sale and it jumped off the rack and is now gone !! SOLD πŸ™

Another will look and question and sift through till just the right whistle. Then decide to think about it, laboring for a few hours, then circle back around to offer me half price — less than I paid for it !!! What can a person be thinking that we are there for ?? Weird huh ??

Another was mentioned in the Oregonian article, just want a whistle or two to set off his terrific 18th century dresser top. No more no less !!!

The strangest was when a friend picked out several hundred dollars worth of whistles and just about to pay when called away for an emergency !!! We certainly hope that everything went well. Hopefully. Whistle matter for nothing when it comes to family.

Well back to research soon. In the meantime it is reorganizing time….
