Where did Argentina whistles originate?

A surprising number of whistles come from Argentina on the south end of the world. Some whistles are made there, such as round whistles and Mauser bullet whistles made for the military and police. However, the exact same models and it would seem many more of these whistles were manufactured or made in Germany, and the UK, but then marketed through Argentina. There are variations indicating different manufacturing materials and shapes.

Some rare whistles with faces for the police are used in Argentina, but come from France. And then there are Spratt’s and others combines with tools using corkscrews with a whistle. So, in total we see whistles originating from Germany, France, and the UK besides Argentina itself, manufactured for the public, the police and the military.

How are Argentina whistles identified?

Identifying whistles from Argentina is usually clear when they have Industria Argentina stamped on them, especially with a symbol for the factory or business which makes it obvious. Others are less obvious, have English language stamps for use in Argentina but not always stating a direct use in Argentina. Beyond this there are few catalogs available for the region to use to match up models.

Lastly, one may never see certain whistles outside of the country unless they are sold on auction only from there but making it obvious they are endemic. So a study of different auctions may be necessary to identify if it is from Argentina or a similar whistle from another country, which may be the same model, but used in two or more different countries.

Why were they made?

Police forces have long needed distinct signaling capability to communicate with each other for law enforcement. The military use was geared more for in the field signaling needing movement.
