Whistle Categories and Types

For the beginning and veteran collector, spending the time to understand given names of whistle categories, or types, will help tremendously. Names can change or be clarified and even we have to ‘weed out’ what we have picked up or used over the years. (For example, the name multi-chamber, we are adjusting to multi-tube, as the chambers would be inside the tube.) We have built files over the last two decades by names of types of whistles and have sorted and defined each type. By following this approach, we have added categories till the point of a rather set amount and following this pattern helps for collectors to cross reference including ourselves with our own ‘reference collection’.

Some whistle categories/types are very specific and labeled as such, while others too vast and so grouped for the time being, for example ‘silver’. You might find what seems to be a redundant folder, we do this with the purpose of making it easier to see important sub-categories. For example, India highlights mainly escargots, although escargots is a different folder, and buttons being entirely separate again. It’s been said, “keeping things simple takes a lot of work!” (Makers themselves are not listed as such on this page, having only 36 files (for now).)
